Important Upgrade Notes

Upgrade All of your Evolution Autopilot Components

Please make sure you upgrade your p70 / p70R autopilot control head and Evolution ACU (actuator control unit) to the latest software when upgrading your Evolution heading sensor. Your Evolution autopilot system will require recalibration after the new software is installed.

Always upgrade the EV-1 Sensor first before updating Actuator Control Unit (ACU).

Upgrading the Evolution Autopilot with a Legacy  a/c/e/eS/gS Series chartplotter/MFD display

Please ensure the display software is at level v13.37 or above before updating the Evolution autopilot.

Upgrading the Autopilot with a Legacy  G-Series chartplotter/MFD display

Please ensure your G-Series system software level is v4.49 or above before updating the Evolution autopilot.

Important Terms of downloading software

Firmware update processes are done at your own risk. Before initiating the update process be sure to backup and make copies of all important files.

If the firmware process is interrupted your product may not function properly, therefore do not interrupt the process and ensure the unit is on a reliable power supply. Damage caused by incomplete upgrades will not be covered by Raymarine warranty.

Please Note: This only affects Evolution Pilot systems with the Actuator Control Unit (ACU) at v3.11 software level and is operating without a Rudder Reference Transducer installed.

It does not affect earlier ACUs with v3.04 or lower software levels.

It does not affect the EV2 Drive by Wire Autopilot system.

It does not affect the ACU300system.

  • Corrects a communications issue on STng when a Mercury Gateway is also connected onto the same bus for Engine Data onto an MFD. This could cause the Evolution Pilot to report the error message "Drive Stopped" or "No Pilot"

  • The new software rectifies a steering performance issue where some sail boat users have experienced degraded steering performance in Auto mode while sailing up or down wind in gusty medium to heavy wind and sea conditions. The degraded performance is more prone to occur if sailing with a large amount of standing helm due to increasing weather helm. 

    The software change only effects Pilots set to Drive Type Linear or Rotary (mechanical drive units).
