Software Update Information and Instructions for AIS650

There are 2 methods of updating the software on your AIS650:

  • Using an SD card inserted into the front of the AIS unit
  • By connection to a Windows PC with a USB cable

Below you will find instructions for both methods. None of the methods will delete any data or settings in your AIS unit. You can change some settings using the ProAIS2 software available to download from the main AIS650 software page. If you require your MMSI to be changed/reset, then you must contact your local Raymarine agent, who can arrange this for you.

Updating via SD Card

Note: this will not change any User/Vessel details inside the AIS650, MMSI, or Vessel Type.

1 - Applying the Software Requirements:

  • SD Memory Card (formatted FAT32 with a maximum file size of 32GB)
  • Power Supply (12V or 24V) 2A

Extract the contents of the AIS650 SD card download .zip file to your hard drive. Copy the two files from the .zip file to a blank SD card.

  • Make sure the AIS650 is switched off.
  • Insert the SD card with both files present into the units SD Card Slot.
  • Apply power to the AIS650.
  • The LED indicator will rapidly flash green for around 5 seconds and then stop flashing with a solid amber LED.
  • Switch power to off.
  • Remove the card.

Note: For further confirmation that the update has been successful, it is possible to check the software version on the Class B by connecting it ProAIS2 and checking the “Diagnostics” tab. If the update was successful, then the latest software version will be displayed.

Updating via a Windows PC

Note: this will not change any User/Vessel details inside the AIS650, MMSI, Vessel Type.

Applying the Software Updater Requirements:

  • Windows PC (Apple OSX is not currently supported)
  • USB connection to Mini USB port on AIS
  • AIS650 PC Software Updater package

Important Note: It is important to note that this software update also consists of a PC USB driver update that must also be applied to the PC that the Class B AIS is used with regularly. Failure to update the USB driver software on the PC may result in the device not being recognized, even if the device itself has received the software update.

This process is automated by the installer software, and the update should be carried out using the PC normally used with the AIS device. The AIS Updater Software package itself relies on the user following simple on-screen instructions to allow the update to be installed.

  • Extract the files from “AIS650 sw version .zip” to the PC that you regularly use in conjunction with your AIS device.
  • Double-click on the file shown above and then double-click on the AISUpdater.exe icon from the list of folders and files subsequently shown.
  • If asked, click “Run”and the following screen will appear to begin taking you through the entire update process.

Please read the welcome notice on this pop-up and then select “Start” when you are ready to begin the process. The Updater software program will then guide the user through the process one step at a time.

Note: For further confirmation that the update has been successful, it is possible to check the software version on the Class B by connecting it ProAIS2 and checking the “Diagnostics” tab. If the update was successful, then the updated software version will be displayed.
