Raymarine re-signs solo yacht racer Katie Miller as Ambassador
Raymarine UK, leading marine electronics manufacturer, has re-signed solo yacht racer Katie Miller as its latest Ambassador. Katie was the youngest woman to ever participate in the Ostar Trans-Atlantic single-handed race, and is now preparing to take part in the TwoStar Transatlantic race, a legendary double-handed race that has been resurrected for 2012.
As part of her preparations for this campaign, Katie has been optimising her Figaro class yacht, Hot Socks, for racing under IRC rules. Katie has already qualified for the TwoStar by completing a recent 1000 mile qualifier, together with co-skipper Matthew Lingley. Hot Socks will be taking part in 2011 Cowes Week, which takes place Saturday 6th - Friday 12th August.
Katie’s latest campaign has been supported by Raymarine, which has equipped her Figaro yacht with electronic systems, including a SPX-5 pilot system and ST70 instrument system.
Katie says; “The Raymarine equipment I have been given means absolute precision and reliability. The SPX-5 Pilot System will provide such peace of mind for me and my co skipper Matthew Lingley when racing. Raymarine have always been onto a winning formula through their marine electronics, and their support for sailing teams is second to none. I am thrilled to be re-joining the Raymarine ambassador team.”
Raymarine’s support for Katie has been longstanding, having supported her since she was awarded the Raymarine YJA Young Sailor of the Year Award in 2007 in recognition of her achievements.
Sarah Brooke, Raymarine UK Sales and Marketing Executive, says: “We are delighted to have Katie back on board. Katie is an outstanding young female sailor and we take great pride in supporting her and her endeavours on the water.”
Katie’s solo sailing career began in 2007 when she circumnavigated Britain in aid of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. In 2008 she went on to win the bluQube 1000 solo race, her first ever solo offshore race, and shortly afterwards became the youngest ever female to complete the OSTAR singlehanded transatlantic race. In 2010, Katie competed in the Shetland Round Britain and Ireland Race resulting in a 3rd place result IRC 1.
With the support of Raymarine, Katie is hopeful of more campaign success in the years to come.
