Ferryside Independent Lifeboat is first to benefit from Raymarine’s new e7 technology
One of the first boats to be installed with Raymarine’s new e7 HybridTouch™ multifunction displays is the new Ferryside Independent Lifeboat. This custom built Ribcraft 6.4m lifeboat is a ‘declared facility’ and is responsible for answering 999 calls in the same way as the RNLI. The Ferryside lifeboats operate in the Carmarthenshire region, working in the extremely fast flowing and tidal waters of the Bristol Channel with its notorious mud flats and sinking sands.
The new lifeboat has been equipped with the very latest high technology navigation systems from Raymarine, and is fitted with two e7 multifunction displays. With three crew on board, the e7 units are positioned at the main helm position, and navigation crew position. The displays network together to provide all the vital data required at the touch of the screen, or push of a button, and are fully customisable to show the key data required by each crew member.
Just launched to the international market, the e7 takes Raymarine’s proven technology to new heights thanks to its high speed connectivity, exceptionally easy to use operating system and user interface, high colour screen clarity, and Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities.
On board the Ferryside Independent Lifeboat, the e7 units will face some of the harshest operation conditions with the crew requiring fast and reliable data at all times. Coxswain Anthony Rees said the Ferryside Independent Lifeboat chose Raymarine because of its reputation for reliability and outstanding technology. “The new e7 allows us greater flexibility to choose the vital data we require. The HybridTouch screen enables fast touch screen operation, and the option to switch to hard button functions in extreme conditions or when travelling at speed. We’re particularly impressed with the high clarity colour screen which has the most amazing viewing angles – even at an extreme slant we can still clearly see the screen display” he said.
The Ferryside Independent Lifeboat team will also be working closely with Raymarine to feedback how the e7 technology is used in search and rescue operations. Jolyon Martin, Area Sales and Retail Program Manager for Raymarine says, “As this is one of the first installations for the e7 in a search and rescue environment, we will be working closely with the Ferryside Independent Lifeboat team to see how the equipment is being used, and ensure they are maximising on the e7’s operational features and functions, which will ensure they are using all the technology available to maximum benefit. The lifeboat crew will also report back to us on operational use, providing valuable product feedback.”
The new 6.4m Ferryside Independent Lifeboat is being launched on Press Day (Friday 16th September) on Ribcraft’s Stand CO43 . Visitors can also see the full range of new Raymarine electronics including the e7 on display at Raymarine’s Stand G088.
