Raymarine Ambassadors make a splash at Boat Parade
The Boat Parade will offer show visitors the opportunity to see the water around the marina come alive, as up to three times a day, a huge flotilla of boats - modern, vintage and iconic - cruise the marina. A number of the Raymarine Ambassadors, including Torpedalo, Banana Shark, Medusa, Jolly Olly and Wetwheels will fly the flag for Raymarine in the show’s special feature.
The wow-factor starts with the 39ft LOA racing powerboat, the eye-catching Banana Shark, skippered by Raymarine Ambassador, John Cooke. Capable of speeds greater than 70 mph, Banana Shark is fitted with a full suite of Raymarine equipment, enabling the crew to find their way around the race course, monitor vital data from the twin 260hp Yanmar engines, and helping to give them the racing edge. Banana Shark is due to take part in the 2012 Round Britain Powerboat Race and in November hopes to take on the class world record on Lake Coniston.
The beautifully restored HMS Medusa, a Harbour Defense Motor Launch built in 1943, will also participate. Raymarine Ambassador, Alan Watson, played an instrumental part in setting up The Medusa Trust, the charity responsible for conserving and operating this naval vessel. HMS Medusa is fully fitted with Raymarine navigation and communication equipment, enabling her to continue to operate at sea today.
Torpedalo promises a surprise for spectators of the Boat Parade. Skippered by Raymarine Ambassadors Mark Byass and Mike Sayer, this carbon fibre pedal-powered boat has been specially designed using the ultimate in cutting-edge technology, is fitted with Raymarine’s navigational products and will be used by the duo to undertake a 3000 mile Atlantic crossing in an attempt to set a new world record later this year.
Wetwheels, the latest project from Raymarine Ambassador Geoff Holt MBE, is designed to give disabled people the opportunity to experience the thrill of powerboating. Wetwheels is a nine metre Cheetah catamaran modified with a side-opening door and a raised helming position. Additional wheelchair tie-down points ensure comfort and confidence for disabled powerboaters. She is kitted out with an entire suite of navigation communication and safety equipment from Raymarine.
Jolly Olly, is a Valiant 18 that leukaemia survivor Olly Rofix has restored and fitted out with Raymarine kit. Olly is sailing her single-handed around the UK to help raise funds and recruit bone marrow donors for the leukaemia charity, the Anthony Nolan Trust.
Raymarine Ambassadors put Raymarine equipment through its paces in the most extreme of situations. The Boat Parade is a great opportunity for the public to see some of the projects and Ambassadors in action.
The fleet taking part in the Boat Parade will be located in the marina throughout the show. Visitors can also see the full range of Raymarine electronics on display at stand G088.
