Thursday 11 June 2009 – With over 500 boats in 25 different classes taking part, competitors in the Volvo DunLaoghaire Regatta 2009 will be relying on their on board technical expertise to help them to the front of their fleet.
The accurate and fast information available from on-board electronics is vital in a race environment, but according to marine electronics experts Raymarine, many boats arrive at race events with equipment that needs calibrating or updating.
To help users get the very best from the technology on board, Raymarine is setting up a product support service prior to, and during, the Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta, providing on-shore service and, technical advice.
Raymarine’s Senior Product Support Engineer Jason Sidaway will be heading up the support team, working alongside Raymarine’s locally-based Irish service agent Niki Potterton Marine. Jason says: “It’s really useful to have technical support on hand at an important regatta, especially when many boats have sailed long distances to get here. This usually highlights any issues they might have with their electronics not operating to their full advantage, or requiring software upgrades.”

Typical support that is provided includes calibrating wind instruments and speed transducers, to ensure accurate information is shown at all times. Providing tacticians and navigators with consistent and accurate data will ensure they have the leading edge on the racecourse.
“The Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta will be by far the biggest Regatta in Ireland and the second biggest in Europe this year. It’s reflects well on the Regatta that an international Company like Raymarine will be on board to support the sailors at the event” said Philip Smith Chairman the Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta “I believe we are going to have a first class Regatta on both the water and on land “he added
